Each guest should be aware that the monks of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert know that God is palpably present here. Therefore, a self-directed retreat in conjunction with our monastic life as outlined above will provide the guest a rewarding experience. The belltower is like a watchman looking for something or someone of whom it does not speak.”. Mass Intentions. Requests for Masses are gladly accepted at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert. An offering of $10.00 for each Mass is the standard stipend, determined by the United States Catholic Bishops. If you request Masses for specific days, please send the request at least six weeks before the specified date or dates.Christ in the Desert is located in the strikingly beautiful Chama Canyon wilderness in northwestern New Mexico, about 75 miles north of Santa Fe, and about 53 miles south of Chama.
